Our Story

Leatherman Real Estate Services was founded by Frank D. Leatherman, Jr, MAI, CCIM, and established in 1991. LRES is a full service commercial real estate function providing appraisal services, brokerage, leasing, property management, and consulting.

Frank Leatherman is a native of Raleigh and a graduate of the University of NC at Chapel Hill. He is a Certified General Real Estate Appraiser, a licensed NC Real Estate Broker, a member of the Appraisal Institute and a CCIM. Having an extensive background in the banking and real estate genres, Mr. Leatherman has appraised a variety of commercial properties including office buildings, shopping centers, subdivisions, apartments, restaurants, industrial properties, vacant land, historic properties, mixed-use developments, golf courses, cotton gins, waste treatment facilities, landfills, municipal and institutional properties.

Mr. Leatherman has extensive experience in eminent domain issues providing expert testimony for municipalities and property owners. Mr. Leatherman's client relationships include some of the nation's major financial institutions and development companies, attorneys, municipalities, public and private corporations as well as individual property owners.

Carolyn B. Terry, Managing Partner, Certified General Real Estate Appraiser, and Broker has been with Leatherman Real Estate Services since its inception in 1991. Ms. Terry manages the daily administrative and financial functions of LRES as well as providing appraisal, commercial/residential brokerage services and consulting. A native of Charlotte where she started her real estate career, she has an extensive background in leasing, property management and development of residential and commercial properties. Prior to her real estate experience, Ms. Terry worked in Sales and Human Resources.

Frank D. Leatherman, Jr, MAI, CCIM, is a partner in Leatherman Real Estate Services LLC (established in 1991) and serves as chief appraiser. Carolyn B. Terry, Managing Partner, Certified General Real Estate Appraiser, and Broker has been with Leatherman Real Estate Services LLC since its inception in 1991.

Jessica Rouse

Jessica Rouse

Jessica Rouse is a Certified General Real Estate Appraiser pursuing her MAI designation.

Jessica is from Newtown, CT and graduated from Purdue University with a Bachelor's Degree in Management with concentrations in International Business and Marketing. She gained experience in the real estate industry through an internship with Trinity Real Estate in New York City as their Strategic Planning and Business Development intern before relocating to Raleigh. Jessica has experience in appraising a variety of commercial property types including subdivisions, offices, industrial facilities/warehouses, estate portfolios and eminent domain projects.

Herman Leatherman

Herman Leatherman joined LRES in June 2013 as a Research Coordinator and received his Trainee certification in December of 2015.

He was previously part- time with LRES while attending college. Herman graduated with a BA in History, Cum Laude in May 2013 from Barton College. He plans to pursue an appraisal career working toward a General Certification and MAI designation.

Lauren Freiberg

Lauren Freiberg joined LRES in May 2010 and is a Certified General Real Estate Appraiser and Licensed North Carolina Broker.

Lauren is from New Bern, NC and has lived in the Triangle since graduating from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2009. Lauren has experience in appraising a variety of commercial property types including land, subdivisions, offices, retail buildings, restaurants, multifamily developments, industrial properties, and agricultural farms and equipment.

Chris Markwood

Christopher Markwood joined LRES in July 2021 as a Real Estate Appraiser Trainee. Chris is originally from Chapel Hill, NC where he lived until graduating from Chapel Hill High School in 2000.

Christopher Markwood joined LRES in July 2021 as a Real Estate Appraiser Trainee. Chris is originally from Chapel Hill, NC where he lived until graduating from Chapel Hill High School in 2000. Chris then joined the United States Air Force where he spent the next 20 years. After retiring from the Air Force in 2020, Chris decided to move back to the Triangle area to be closer to family and decided to pursue a second career as a Real Estate Appraiser with plans to obtain his General Certification and MAI designation.

Robert “Tripp” Terry has been appraising commercial real estate since 2010. Tripp is certified in North and South Carolina and earned the MAI designation from the Appraisal Institute in 2019.

Robert “Tripp” Terry has been appraising commercial real estate since 2010. Tripp is certified in North and South Carolina and earned the MAI designation from the Appraisal Institute in 2019. Tripp has a great deal of experience with the appraisal of all types of commercial real estate. In his free time, he enjoys cycling, golf and outdoor/adventure travel. 

Tripp resides in Charleston, SC with his wife Kathleen, two children Bert and Libba, and black lab Lark.
